Simpsons Redemption?

I see countless complaints on here about how The Simpsons sucks, or it isn't what it used to be. I think you people need to buck up and appreciate what we have. Is any other show funnier? No way. Some people are just never satisfied.

Anyways, do any of you remember the episode, "Papa's Got a Brand New Badge"? I believe that episode was new last season, and I thought it was one of the funniest episodes ever.

IMO not really bad but too pointless and too repetitive. Many story elements were simply recycled from older episodes. The Soprano spoof was well done but is it enough to carry an entire episode? Meh.

I would never identify The Simpsons as a show that solely contains "flat and broad slapstick". I concede that The Simpsons does contain some slapstick in it's episodes, but to say that the show lacks the qualities that you identified with Futurama, is not a fair statement. I think The Simpsons does contain elements of satire and generous proportions of underlying humor that rival the content in a Futurama episode. Most people are now too busy looking for what they deem ever-increasing flaws in the fabric of the show, that they fail to notice many of those moments in the show.

If they do a Futurama satire, they use a lot of true satirical potential. If they do a Simpson satire in these days, they just use some small amount of the true potential and fill the rest with some other (and usually easier) things like slapstick or crude humor. Futurama is still able to have some serious content while The Simpson writers have to "correct" everything more serious with a big load of often useless fun. That�s one of the reasons why I think Futurama is now better than The Simpsons.

uh, excuse me, i believe a Simpson has already become a cop, causing Marge to arrest Homer with hilarious consequences. uh, excuse me, I believe Homer has already started a vigilante group, catching the Springfield Cat Burglar with hilarious consequences. uh, excuse me, I believe Homer has already entered act 3 of an episode on the Mafia hitlist, causing Mayor Quimby to be beaten with hilarious consequences.

besides, one Sopranos parody does not make up for me completely unamused for 20 minutes of the episode.

You honestly believe The Simpsons is everybody's favorite TV programme and nobody could possibly like anything better? Don't be ridiculous. As for the sucks and not what it was threads, most people in the group learnt to ignore them cos they're boring and repetitive.
