THIRD WORST EPISODE EVER

This episode was absolutely HORRENDOUS. I don't even know where to start. Just the premise of it is enough to make me gag. This was obviously another episode that got celebrities to bring in the ratings. The entire episode was centered around Jerkass Homer (he hasn't been this much of a jerkass since Kill the Alligator and Run, which is still the WEE). So many elements of this show were recycled from previous episodes, and there were no jokes that produced more than a mild chuckle. Of course this is not surprising considering Mike Scully was both the WRITER AND EXECUTIVE PRODUCER of this episode! They need to kill this show...and run!!

Maybe they should retool the Simpsons like they did with the Cyborganizer?

I didn't like tonight's show. You know it won't be good when the list of guest stars playing themselves is so long.

The first act was well done. Homer was funny. And the taxi show was good. I don't know about ruining the Disco Stu character like that though. I thought "Disco Stu Likes Disco Music".

Then when the guest stars arrived, the episode went downhill. It just looks too much like a bunch of people who do the show just to have their name said on a popular tv show. It wasn't as bad as "Tennis the Menace" but still....the show would be better is the guest stars weren't playing themselves all the time and if there were less of them.

What about Homer at the Bat? That was a pretty good one...in general I don't like this trend of lots of guest stars because often it seems to lead to silliness, but you can't turn it into a blanket statement.

i agree with both of you. in the spirit of (sir) gary coleman, shall we say that the trend of lots of guest stars is a mixed blessing at best? (or at least has turned into one - i agree, homer at the bat was brilliant). i'd rather not see any guest stars, or maybe one or two, but yech. i happen to love mick and keith so i'm biased for this one. just hearing jagger yell "simpson!" still cracks me up. ahhh, cavort and caper!

actually many of the episodes with guest stars (like, i presume, this new one) would have been better if the writers had just invented new characters in place of the guests, and created a loose parody a la Rainer Wolfcastle.

Of course, there's the occasional exception. But "Homer at the Bat" is a 1992 episode. 10 years ago, the writers were able to make better episodes and that's why the series is still on. The making of the "Homer at the Bat" episode today would probably not be as well done as it was back in season 3.

It was pretty bad.

I was all excited and everything to see the season premiere, only to find out that it's another show featuring stupid faded old rock-and-roll stars. I hate 60s music, and I hate when the writers drag out that hoary old chestnut of putting rock stars in the show. It degrades the show enormously, the main reason being that the guest stars are never given any funny lines. Their presence alone is supposed to be entertaining.

NEWFLASH: THEIR PRESENCE ALONE IS NOT ENTERTAINING

What a pathetically unfunny season premiere, because it illustrates how far downhill the show has gone from its heyday. The only bright bit in the entire show was Monkey Trauma Center, good for a chuckle, then it was all flat and boring from that point onward.

If the writers are reading this, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE no more rock stars, they bring down the show and they're not enough to buoy the storyline.

i'm curious. why? i'm well under 30, hardly half way there in fact, and i loved it. the stones are my favorite band too - the early years (62 - 75, incl some girls 78). is that what you meant? i'd agree that not a whole lot of younger people these days like the stones (or know just how brilliant they are/were back in the day), but are there other reasons?

I was referring to the whole "lost dreams" idea. At some point one realizes that they will never live out their dreams from youth. If one is lucky, one will set some minor goals and achieve them. I will never become a famous artist. But, I did become the executive director of a local arts group where I can help others learn and apppreciate art.
