- The incident with the mailman references the episode "Time Enough At Last," in which bank teller Henry Bemis (played by Burgess Meredith) can never find time to read. One day, as he sits in the bank vault reading, a hydrogen bomb destroys the entire world while Bemis remains safe. As he collects reading material from the local library, he leans down to retrieve a book from the concrete stairs and his glasses slip off. The lenses shatter into tiny pieces on the steps.
"Let's Hear It For The Boy" (song)
- The "Let's Hear It For The Soy" restaurant parodies this Deneice Williams song from the soundtrack for "Footloose."
"Disco Duck" (song)
- "Disco Stu should have Disco Ducked." "Disco Duck" was a minor hit for DJ Rick Dees in 1976.

Musical References:
Pat Benatar's "Love is a Battlefield," Etta James' "At Last," and Frankie Goes
to Hollywood's "Relax" played when Marge uses the jukebox as a weapon.
The Tetris music was, correctly, one of the Russian songs from the game soundtrack. (Was this "Moscow Nights"?)
Burt Bacharach's "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" is sung by one of the women's bodybuilding contestants.
Psychological Trauma:
I feel like they ended the first act on a really "down" note, particularly because Marge's reactions were, though exaggeratedly comic, easily characteristic of real reactions to crime or trauma. And yes, agoraphobia, which is anxiety about being in places or situations from which escape might be difficult, can be brought on by a panic attack. In its least extreme form, one avoids those situations, places or situations where it would be difficult or embarrassing to try to escape. In its most extreme form, one is unable to leave the house, or even a specific room.
Seeing as this is the second episode this season that has Marge drastically deforming her physical appearance, perhaps she also has body dysmorphic disorder...

What's with all the random beer steins on the ground behind Ned as he looks at
the Playdude centerfolds? It didn't seem like enough for a DYN, but it's not a goof either. It's just odd.
Animation, continuity, and other goofs
The blender pitcher did not have blades in the bottom.
The contestant's mouth didn't move when she said "Support the arts!"
Marge is pretty upset about her necklace being thrown in a drawer, but she's got a whole ball of necklaces in a drawer (they're all heirlooms).
The "cheap girlfriend" couldn't wear Marge's necklace anyway- the mugger breaks the pearls as he pulls them from around Marge's neck and the beads scatter on the ground.
Except for the few seconds in which Lisa comments on the feet going by the window, the air hockey table has no goals.
We just saw Ruth Powers in Luigi's restaurant during "Large Marge," and she looked like she normally does. (I suppose arguments can be made that DABF18 was meant to have happened more than three years ago...)
"Sword rifle" is left out of the list in the closed captioning.
Rainier Wolfcastle has already brought over the Snuggli before Homer asks for a ride home. That's a little creepy.
They make steroids in liquid form? In a jar? So you can drink it? (And, yes, it sets up the "Popeye" gag, so it's probably okay.)
