Still, your theory can be validated by the "going to see The Itchy & Scratchy movie with his son the Chief Justice" scene at the end of "Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie", which didn't have a specific year (I think it said "40 years later").

(Then again, according to "Behind the Laughter", there is not necessarily any continuity, as it's just a TV show with The Simpsons as "themselves", so for all we know, Homer can die in one episode and come back in the next - and didn't the entire family do that in "Simpsons Bible Stories"?)
