Lisa's Sax vs.

Just saw Lisa's Sax in syndication. In this episode, Bart has trouble in his first day of school singing B-I-N-G-O. Teacher: Added extra clap: not college material. Later, he forgets some of the alphabet. "A-B-C- Line - D E - Line" "F. I imagine you'll be seeing a lot of that letter." Or something like that. Also: Teacher: "... and the ugly duckling was amazed to realize it had grown into a beautiful swan." So you see children, there is hope for anyone. Bart: Even me? Teacher: No.

However in Lisa The Simpson: Lisa: Wow. Dad was a good speller? Grampa: Oh, your dad used to be smart as a monkey then his mind started gettin' lazy and now he's as dumb as a chimp. Lisa: Grampa! Grampa: Hey, I am, too. And your brother's coming along nicely. Look at Bart's homework. Back when he was your age, he was smart as a chimp. (Picks up Bart's homework from the second grade with a smiley face and the comment "Great Work!") Lisa: This is just two years ago! Grampa: That's right. Then the Simpson genes kick in! (Grampa leafs through the homeworks. The smiley faces gradually become a skull and crossbones.)

So my point is that Lisa the Sax has Bart dumb in the first grade, where Lisa The Simpson has him smart in the first grade. Oh, and I just noticed that they are both in the 9th Season. What the dillyo?

Bart isn't dumb and never has been in my opinion. He doesn't do well in school but in every other way he's sharp as a tack. He learned French and has had almost as many jobs as Homer, doing all very well. Lots of smart folks weren't good in school and this isn't a very good school at all.

Homer seems dumb but personally I think he just has no attention span. When he focuses on something like a sport or music he becomes very, very good at it. But then the short attention span takes over.
