this overuse of this expression adds up to the worst newsgroup ever. Goddamit people. This plastering of catchphrases is almost as bad as the first two seasons.

The simpsons should do an episode devoted to all the unimaginative geeks (not nerds, nerds are smart) in this group. It could be an invasion of rat that follow the pied piper (played by moe) bumping into each other, drunken-like. Everytime they hit, they could spew a catchphrase. Moe drowns the whole lot and springfield lives happily ever after.

(2) a wizard did it:

the fact that it needs to be used at all is a joke in itself.

I elaborated about the so called "catch phrases" in another thread, but I also need to say this...they weren't even used as much as people remember. I counted one, maybe two tops uses of "don't have a cow man". One use of "eat my shorts". Two uses of "cowabunga", and the second almost seems like a meta ref to me. True, "ay carumba" was used a fair amount in season one, but by the middle of season two it and the other "phrases" were pretty much dropped BECAUSE they were picked up on in that way, only to make guest appearances later on as a joke about their own popularity.

I think I may have mentioned something about that in the other post I made....but the merchandise is mostly irrelevant. Its not part of the show itself (well, I could argue that it is now), and the people making the show back then had very little to do with the merchandise. As I mentioned in that other post, I think, Jon Vitti himself (he coined "eat my shorts") was incredibly embarrassed that the merchandisers had put the phrase all over the merchandise.
