Notes for LABF16 (The Great Wife Hope)

Well, so far this season it seems like they're going for simpler, non- outrageous episodes. I wasn't amazingly crazy about this - but if there had been either more or less of the Marge-fight part, that is, enough to get into it or more time to spend on the previous parts, I could have gotten more into it. I mention a few episodes below that this reminds me of, but probably most of all is 7F09 (Itchy & Scratchy & Marge), which could have been good inspiration if it were followed more.

DYN: ...the four bullies spell out "KILL" but "K" is not Kearney? ...Martin somehow consented to using Ralph's head as a bell? ...the SImpsons have a video recorder that sounds like a TiVo but makes videotape-like fast forwarding lines? ...they call it "The Septagon" instead of the preferred term "heptagon" ("septagon" isn't even in my dictionary)? (Did anyone else quickly count up the number of sides before the name was mentioned?) ...Lenny refers to Marge's "left toe"? (Uh?)

INTRO NOTES Crow: now a stork carrying maggie (R to L) Ralph and Barney have been doing the same thing all season so far... But Stu now says something like "oomp!" instead of "ho!"

Meta Bernice is concerned that Maggie never talks.

Other Marge used a black forest cake (a whole one) to make Homer turn to her side - I imagine the choice of cake is coincidental, but I can't help but think of Portal, the game.

References I can't place Marge refers to whoop-tushie - didn't she once long ago? And Carl takes (fake) offense to Homer assuming he and Drederick Tatum are friends because they're black; a few years ago, there was some sort of thing where Carl, Eddie, Dr. Hibbert, and Drederick pulled up to a place together (the key being that they were all black), and Drederick seemed like an odd one out. I can't remember when that was, though.

OK, finally a legitimate use for your constant griping about air seasons. Touche. Let's say it's a streak, then; I wouldn't have expected it to extend to an entire season anyway.

I don't agree that they're entirely irrelevant OR arbitrary, but you have to know by now that I pay attention to both orders and their implications. I even mentioned the usefulness of knowing production order/grouping in my p-code document, and surely in many past posts.

I'm not insisting this DVD order - some shows seem to be better served following production order (generally shows that were jerked around and broadcast way out of order - Futurama comes to mind), some are fine in airing order (Simpsons, Family Guy - remember in these cases too that revisions may be made very close to air, so for many holdovers, especially the FG 2ACXs that didn't air for 2 years, there should be some consideration for airdates, and even to an extent for the summer break on OFF)... some go with a silly third order (Seinfeld, Firefly). If you want to start a major campaign for ordering Simpsons DVDs another way, go ahead. Unlike many of the things I bitch about, the order you watch DVD episodes in is up to the viewer.

And ha ha! Syndication may generally use production codes for ordering, but the episodes are sold in air-season packages. How about that?

A reference is something that actually refers to another episode. Just a repeat of something or something similar is not a reference; otherwise, everytime Homer says "D'oh" it would be a reference.
