Intro = Microcosm for Show

Hope this hasn't been discussed before.

I was just kinda thinking, have you ever noticed how the intro for the show is pretty indicative of where there show has gone in recent years?

In the first seasons (1-6), it seemed as though the intros involved the entire family making their appearance in some strange way. Either that or something funny would happen to them after taking a seat on the couch - and it was creative too. I particularly like where the rear wall keeps extending back, with the family running forever to reach it, very clever.

But what do we have now? Yes, the Simpsons make some crazy entrance, but then, something inevitably happens to Homer, usually some sort of injury. (This is nothing new, think about how prone Homer has been to getting beaten up lately. Also, does he get attacked by an animal in every episode nowadays or am I just dreaming?) So he gets to stand out via stupid slapstick humor and the rest of the family takes a back seat...hmmm, where have I seen this transition before?

You know what? I've noticed that, too. The family drives in in bumper cars, and they all ram Homer. They slide down the fire pole, and Homer gets stuck. They parachute down to the couch, and Homer's chute doesn't open. They're poured as cement statues, and Homer's breaks in half. I'd noticed this, too... but never really put it in words. Good catch.
