Evita homage

I knew if was going to be a parody of EVITA. I was in EVITA myself a couple years ago. I played Juan Peron. It's one of my favorite musicals. Anyway, I didn't expect the Simpsons episode to be based SO MUCH on Evita. It wasn't really even a parody so much as an homage. They basically copied several of the songs (Don't Cry For Me Argentina, Rainbow High...) in mood and music, as well as what was happening onscreen. Like the scene where Lisa is being dressed. That is exactly what happens in Evita. Now I love Evita and I love the Simpsons but I have to agree with others on this board that this was NOT a great episode. It may have sounded like a good idea on paper, but it just didn't have that much energy or laughs. Sure, there were a few laughs. I liked Skinner singing about his "Evil Plan" and Willie singing about being drunk riding the lawnmower. But Skinner's plan just seemed to unrealistic. Sure, the Simpsons is often unrealistic. But typically in the emotional, character-based episodes such as this one, the stories are more realistic. Oh well. It was an interesting idea. I'm just afraid that most viewers didn't have a clue that this was based on Evita. Oh well, I still like the show. Saw the Stonecutters episode in syndication tonight! Awesome!
