Or is it 303 better than 302? Eh, in any event, the second new episode shown last night was substantially better than the first. It had a good main plot, a good subplot, and had some real heart to it (especially at the end, when Homer realizes his error in choosing a rib sandwich over Lisa). The guest star was funny and unobtrusive, and, most important of all, it was funny! I loved how Barney the drunk returned (I hope it's for good), I enjoyed Lisa and the colleges (it's always nice to see good old-fashioned Vassar bashing), and much more about the episode. It was very enjoyable.
The first episode, though, was not good. The first two acts seem OK in comparison to the last act, which was terrible. I don't mind so much when there are guest stars that play themselves on this show, but when the episodes are built around the guest star, things aren't always successful. This is especially true here. As the episode stumbled along towards its unsatisfying end, I hoped against hope that the second episode would be good. I'm glad it was.
