There is a famous painting by an American artist that shows some people sitting in a diner with large windows. In one episode we see the same scene with Homer sitting at the counter. This painting is also spoofed in an ad for American Movie Classics.

I know there was a reference to Henri Rousseau's "The Sleeping Gypsy" in one of the episodes, but I can't remember where. It's the one with the gypsy asleep with the lion over the top of him under the starry sky, for those who forgot Rousseau.
