I just watched the Hellfish ep. last night and when Ab is recalling his Days a sag in the second world war 2 he states the CO (i believe) to be Cornal Flanders. obvious parallelism to other characters (ie chief wiggims father, symore skinners father) would lead us to believe that Co. Flanders is Ned Flanders' Father. yet i recall very clearly in the ep. where flanders "snaps" his father is a beat-nik.
any comments?

Nonsense, it actually makes perfect sense.
Say the CO was in his late 40's, with a son already in his mid twenties. This son, destined to become a beatnik was already avoiding violence, and thus was not involved with the war effort, or perhaps somehow wounded in a traumatic accident resulting in becoming a beatnik later in life. Ned could easily have been fathered in a time frame which woul make him 60.
Failing that, a wizard did it.
Well, in WWII a lot of people were drafted. So even if Papa Flanders was a free spirited rebel at heart he may have HAD to fight in the war. Also, since WWII was a war *against* racism and imperialism for a change, many liberal types gave it their wholehearted support. Maybe Flanders, Sr. was so repelled by what he saw of Fascism in Europe that he became an anti-authoritarian fanatic upon return to civilian life. Little Ned understandably over-reated to Dad's excesses, and there we have it.
