Yeah, now that the last three Superbowl champs came from average/crappy teams the seaon prior, you'll see a lot more of those bets.
Vegas has already adjusted as they got mauled by people who cashed in on the 150-1 Rams in the 1999 season (4-12 during the 1998 season), which is why your friend only got 75-1 odds on the Pats (5-11 during the 2000 season) and why the Ravens were only 50-1 the year before (8-8 in the 1999 season).
Next year, the longest shot, surely the Carolina Panthers (1-15 this past year, with a new coach next year) will probably only get 100-1 odds and will likely get a lot of action too...
