The reason I haven't bought the first 2 season yet is because I want to watch them all at once. I started buying X-Files DVD last September, I just started on season 6, and season 7 will be out in May. If I were to buy 1, 2 and 3 (when it comes out) of the Simpsons, I'd be waiting another 2 years for season 4.

I don't get why the X-Files can do a great job getting them out so fast whie the Simpsons is as slow as hell.

The early X-Files sets didn't have commentary tracks. When some of the later season sets included commentary tracks on a few episodes, the show was already finished... So everyone had plenty of time to record everything.

It's hard for the staff of The Simpsons to record commentary tracks on top of the regular work they have to do for new episodes of the show.

You're right, the commentary tracks didn't start until season 3 with 2 episodes. This is also because not every episode needs commentating (on average, I'd say about 8 or 9 episodes a season of the X-Files warrant it; and I would have liked more than 2!).

The same goes for OFF. Does EVERY episode need commentary? How much can they say? I'd rather they do commentary for 1/2 or 1/3 (or even 1/4) of the episodes if means getting them into my DVD player within a few months of each set. I also read somewhere that the commentators of the first 2 seasons repeat a lot of the same information.

I agree with you there.

I think it would be better for them to put together interviews about each episode, like the X-Files people did. Get Groening and some of the writers to talk about each episode for 5 or 10 minutes, and compile the whole thing into a two hour bonus DVD.
