Does anyone else think that it was a huge mistake to give Apu 8 kids? That's not the type of thing that can just disappear after one episode, and it was really uncomfortable seeing a beloved character in such a situation. I can't imagine a good episode featuring the octuplets in the future. To me, the entire episode was written as an excuse to use the word "ovulicious." ________________________________________________________________

I don't exactly agree with the decision to have the kids, but I wasn't exactly for the addition of Manjula to the cast, either. In any case, it's just a part of life. People get married and have kids. The world's population would decrease if this were not to happen. Just because it's uncomfortable for you doesn't mean that the world should stop. At least the kids' parents are married.. :-P
They were not meant to be featured in a future episode. It was a sour gag that the producers (probably Scully, mostly) thought would be a nice bit of continuity. They were wrong, and there's no point in dwelling on it because the octuplets are here to stay. (Note how _I_ don't rant about the decision to kill off Maude anymore.) Nevertheless, they had their spotlight episode, and it's very unlikely that we'll see them much again. Especially when there are so many characters who haven't had 'spotlight' episodes yet.
Oh, please. There were plenty more worthwhile jokes in the episode.

Although that episode was quite good, it really does limit what can be done with one of my favorite characters, Mandula. (Just kidding I meant Apu.) I predict we'll only really see him back at the Kwik-E-Mart. Which maybe won't be so bad.
killing Maude was dumb, Apu octuplets were even dumber...welcome to the world of the Simpsons today - using evermore dumb plot devices in order to attempt to stay fresh when deep inside it knows thats not possible
that said, what could be dumber than Homer going into space? but at least they knew that was stupid and made up for it with some truly awe-inspiring gags, pastiches and animation
=v= I agree that killing Maude was dumb, especially since it was a cheapskate move. C'mon, we all loved Maude, though not perhaps in the same way as Ned ("If you think I'm snuggly/And you want my comp'ny") or Homer ("Your wife's butt is higher than my wife's butt!").

possibilities, though. We've already seen them around town, and

Killing Maude was necessary because the woman who was voicing her left the show. But they could have done it in a more dignified way than hitting her with a t-shirt projectile. ________________________________________________________________

No, it wasn't. They had a replacement for her, who has not only voiced Maude, but Helen Lovejoy and Miss Hoover as well.
