PERSONALITY + TRIVIA:
THE GREAT GILDERSLEEVE: during Orson Welles' attempt to convince the cops that the invasion by Kang and Kodos was the real thing, Wiggum snaps back with "ahhhh, go tell it to Gildersleeve!" This is in reference to a blustery blowhard of a character, Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve , who was played by Harold Peary first on the popular "Fibber McGee and Molly" program, and later spun off into his own successful show. (Incidentally, Gildy was known to yell "D'oh!" whenever he got really exasperated ).
OBSERVATION:
THE BLOB: in the opening of the original 1950s version of this film, a meteor lands on earth. The person who first discovers it sees it crack open, watches the goo come out, and start poking it with a stick - whereupon the goo attacks and eats its first victim. The writers are to be commended for making reference to this opening in "Married To The Blob" - with the added payoff that Homer eats the goo instead!
