What amazing thing about last night's episode:

Michael Chabon finally entertained me.

I knew who Gore Vidal and Tom Wolfe were, as I have read two of Tom's books. But I did not have the foggiest idea who the other guys were. They are correct about Tom Wolfe and the usage of exclamation points. Read "The Right Stuff"! "OUR ROCKETS ALWAYS BLEW UP!!!"

This reminds me of the time Homer was watching the TV and the announcer said "Tonight on Fox, 'When Dinosaurs Get Drunk', will not be seen, so we may bring you 'The Boring World of Niehls Bohr'!". DABF13. The following day people were saying "is that some guy's real name?" Now it is my turn to say "is that some guy's real name?"

But I have read most of Leon Uris' novels, so when Cletus used "Trininty" to crush a turtle at the library in that one episode, I got the joke. http://www.snpp.com/episodes/BABF22

Tom Wolfe is an author and a journalist who was first known for writing ELECTRIC KOOLAID Acid Test (an expose of Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters, the Grateful Dead and their adventures with the Hells Angels, Neil Casady, Allen Ginsberg and others in the hippie movement in San Francisco in the middle 60s.
