simpsons in the flesh

Anybody see them live in Montreal? I'd love to talk to someone about it. Was a crazy experience.

I saw them.

It was basically a readthough of an episode with almost the entire voice cast. Matt G. and the Head writer were there as well, as one of the directors.

Lots of Q&A after the episode readthough (don't know the number but it was the one where Lisa had a crush on Nelson and Homer got an Autodialer for the Mr. Happy Dude telemarketing scam).

All the voice actors were there, except for Harry Shearer and Julie Kavner for that episode. Thos voices were handled very well by other voice cast members. Hank Azaria was hilarious. A lot of fun was poked at Comic Book Guy for not having a name...

Every time a new character's voice appeared the place went nuts.

it went like this.

1. Matt Groening short speech. 2. Their vfavourite Simpsons moments in short clips 3. The voice cast introduction 4. The readthrough - The director read all the "stage direction" and the actors, of course, read their parts and many doubled up as they do on the show. It was interesting to see an exchange between Bart and Nelson or Homer and Grandpa becuase a single actor provides both voices in the exchange.

5. Questions and answers - about 40 minutes worth. Questions ranged from requests for voices, to favourite shows of the cast, who seem to favour the "Lisa" plots becuase they were "sweet" and more intelligent. A funny moment came when Hank Azaria was listing Homer's stupidest moments and Dan C. voiced them all. Number one was when Homer was in the wtiness protection program and the FBI agents were training him on his new name and after hours of it he still couldn't recognize the name was supposed to be him: in loud whisper to second FBI agent -- "I think he's talking to YOU!" Other questions were about the cast and what else they have done. Most do voice work for other cartoons, some act Dan C. and Hank Azaria etc.

LOL No worries, I got to live through the event again. :)

A buddy of mine works for Just For Laughs, and he got us backstage for the last show. We talked for about an hour with Groening and the voice talent, and it was a simpson fan dream.

Granted I made an ass of myslef in front of Hank Azaria, but thats another story.

Best part is, I got a signed script with all their signatures, and a Homer drawn on the cover. Great souvenir.

Tell me something though, were you a little disapointed that the show wasnt longer? All told it was only about 1 hour and a half. I was hoping they were going to do 2 scripts.

Was there any mention of the next performance?

I saw the friday night show and it was "The Cartridge Family"; Homer buys a gun. It was pretty great to see the faces while they did the voice, especially Dan who showed a lot of expression in his voice and Hank who pretty much acted out everything. One of the questions asked was concerning the legalization of pot.

Groening said "Ok. drugs are bad. don't do drugs, legalize all drugs." Someone asked a question as the comic book guy (I thought of doing it to, I sooo wanted to do it, but I wanted to find a real "error" and didn't get around to it.)

I think they should have taken an intermission, done another script and then questions... Just knowing that they only did that performance at two or three other locations made it worth it for me.
