Family Guy... O.J. Simpson... uh, 3+ minutes of Conway Twitty... how?

Peter shaking a baby to death. Wow. Just wow.

Horrible slapped together episode from the writer's strike era, coupled w/ new ill-fitting new jokes (Juno came out DECEMBER of 2007 and the Oscar that Diablo Cody won [which was referenced in the episode] was given to her in February 2008. The episode was said to take place in March 2007, well before Juno or The Jonas Brothers). I can't wait to hear McFarlane's take when it comes out on DVD. Judging by the FG IMDb listing, _the_ worst episode of the series.

I normally don't watch Family Guy, but I still had the TV on from KOTH, and was out of the room. When I came back, Conway Twitty was singing. At first, I thought it was a commercial, even though it seemed like an odd thing to be advertising on that show. As it went on, I thought it might be a comic bit - I don't know if they're in the habit of mixing in live-action stuff, but it seemed just absurd enough to be something they might do. As it went on even further, I figured the cable company must have gotten their wires crossed, and I was getting a different channel. I thought, "if this is a Family Guy bit, I have to respect their commitment to it." So, I guess I have to respect their commitment to it.

And yet the "Texas" episode was worse. Family Guy has become unwatchable. Much like the Simpsons. Can it be true? Am I reduced to having KOTH as my favorite animated sitcom? Holy propane!

All sorts of die-hard FG fans seem to be catching up with the criticisms everyone else has had for years about the show, seemingly solely on the basis of this and last week's episode. I also found it interesting how, particularly at the IMDB, so many people are offended at the "shaken baby joke" that I don't even have any recollection of. Out of all the tasteless jokes that series has done over the years, *this* is the one that finally offended the show's big fans? Odd. Maybe lots of FG fans were shaken as babies.

What I do like about it is that it's memorable and appears early in the episode. In the future, when I watch Family Guy in syndication and this "joke" pops up, I'll know it's time to change the channel.

I haven't read imdb on it, but I do recall that I loved Stewies line a few seasons ago yelling at Lois, "Shake ME! Shake me like a British Nanny!" which came out after a news report about a british nanny who killed one of her charges by shaking it to quiet it.

(Well, it wasn't HORRIBLE. And BTTF references on FG are always solid. However, that is a lot of Conway Twitty.)

Anyway, a note relevant to a.t.s - I was waiting the whole episode for a Simpsons joke, and there it was (Adam West telling who we think is OJ but is really Homer that we don't like you like we did in 1993 [I have to remark that he was a guest on OFF in 1992 but again in 2002]). There was a similar mention in Stewie's song in the extended version of "Lois Kills Stewie" that uses a date of 1994.

Also, remember the discussion about the "looks just like our number 4" ending to DABF19 (TOH XIII)? One idea was that it was a bodily function (I believe it was remarked that Ren and Stimpy had set a precedent for what a "number 3" was) - well, on American Dad tonight, Steve used "number 4" to name the act of two people taking a poop while holding hands. Just so you know.

Actually, the first act was the funniest part of the show, imo.
