the episode that aired tonight was horrible. Forced and unfunny. Give it up already. Put it to bed.

Ya know, I can watch the show and howl with laughter and always whiny hatin' on this board.

The show isn't always life-altering, but it pretty consistently gives me some pretty intense laughs, year in and year out.

Kinda like this group!

In my house, the show was an institution... almost a religion! We used lines from the show to communicate certain frustrations, concerns, feelings ,etc. Always on the cutting edge with sharp social satire, it was the greatest thing on TV!!!

Now, after last night's episode, (imho) it's just a very beaten dead horse. Didn't Al Jean say in a recent interview that they are basically out of ideas? So they ARE just doing it for the bucks. Very sad and very far removed from where it began. Put it to bed already! Jay

But I get the feeling if the show had been the way it is now all along, I wouldn't be anything more than a casual viewer (if that). To me, watching the new episodes is like watching the characters I love act as puppets in the hands of writers that think they're funny, but really aren't. Sitting around the writing table laughing about their bland, predictable jokes, bouncing their wacky ideas off of each other making the scripts stupider and stupider and thinking it's hilarious all the while.

It doesn't bother me too much, it's just another part of the show's run. I'll always have the brilliant episodes of years past, when it really was THE best thing on TV. A couple hundred of them, at that. The show continues to get accolades, thanks to the classic years, and admittedly a great new episode comes along now and then but I think these days the show gets a lot more credit than it's due. As for the rubbish like Sunday's episode, just add it to the pile of "not worth watching again"s.

Matters of taste are exactly about that. Why should it be any less simple than that?

Much the same for us (my son was born in 1989). We both thought the season premiere sucked. But we enjoyed Jazzy and the Pussycats. Opinions vary. It is that simple.
