Large Marge censorship?

I have no idea what this was about, but being of a conspiratorial bent...

I noticed that in the middle of the song in the restaurant, there appeared to be an entire verse missing. There was just no sound, although the action continued. Did anyone else notice this, and was it only on the West Coast (implying some form of post-East Coast airing complaints) or was it in all versions. It appeared to be a very crude edit, implying a last-minute change. Of course, it could have just been a problem with the network feed.

I noticed this too. I live in the west coast (San Francisco) and was wondering if there was some sort of censorship or just a technical difficulty?

Nothing jumped out at me - the way you describe it, it sounds like people were dancing around and moving their mouths, but nothing was coming out. I'll check my tape later, but if you could be more specific in your description of the problem, that would help.

Of course, I wasn't paying as much attention as I should have -- I came to the conclusion it was a truly lousy episode once they started the unneccessary musical number.

That wasn't during tthe song, that was at the end where Krusty announces he's going to save the day.

Are you saying there was a cut at that point? I watched the end of act 2 again and didn't notice anything odd - no silence, no abrupt cuts...but if what everyone is thinking about is in act 3, let me know and I'll check it.

That does sound like a transmission error...that happens from time to time, esp. if it's stormy or something...and it's not just people with dishes, I have cable but see that from time to time - in fact, it happened on a commercial really close to the beginning of the episode and I was thinking "oh, don't let this go on..." - it didn't any more for me, but that's what it sounds like the way you describe it.

How about "Checking In" from City of New York vs. Homer Simpson? True, OFF didn't have to go see a Broadway musical, but it *is* one of the more common things for tourists to NYC to do.

"Just Don't Look" from the THOH segment with the rampaging advertising figures is another necessary musical number.

It's not a musical number per se, but the "Homer's Night Out" film (from Wild Barts Can't Be Broken, IIRC) is another excellent use of music and a cutaway scene.

I think they needed an advertising jingle to get the crowd's attention. Wouldn't you agree that many of the most memorable commercials are memorable for their musical jingles:
