Bart learned about the process of baby-making from "Fuzzy Bunny's Guide to Romance", so why is he so shocked now?
Tonight's outing, while mildly disappointing, still provided a fair amount of laughs, and overall was pretty solid. Marge's plot was fairly uninteresting, with a flat conflict and less-than-successful emotional angle with Lisa (though there were some good parts with that, like Marge's speech about why she cheated, and Lisa's card). However, no gags failed horribly, and there were quite a few laughs (Homer's attempt at house repair, Agnes Skinner, the Apu thing). Bart's subplot, on the other hand, was great. The innocent nature of Bart's love of Playdudes made every sex joke that otherwise would have failed, tasteful and hilarious. James Caan, while unnecessary, was pretty funny, and I thought the parody of the Sonny/tollbooth scene at the end was hilarious. Bart and Homer's man-to-man talk at the end was the highlight of the night. So, while it wasn't great, it was still a decent episode, getting an 8/10. (B-)
James Caan is best known for his role as Santino "Sonny" Corleone in the Godfather trilogy (notably Part I, because he was uncredited and his character was, well, dead in Parts II and III). In the 70s and early 80s, Caan was an infamous party animal, being a regular guest at Hugh Hefner's Hollywood Playboy Mansion, and making frequent trips to Las Vegas. In a 1976 Playboy Magazine interview, Caan admitted to his swinging playboy lifestyle: "Everybody makes me out to be some kind of macho pig, humping women in the gutter. I do, but I put a pillow under them first." In the early 90s, Caan kicked a cocaine habit of 20 years, but apparently the old 70s spirit lives on inside of him. Currently, Caan stars on NBC's "Las Vegas" as casino security chief "Big Ed" Deline.
Bart's attire is modeled after Hefner's own trademark silk housecoat and pipe, presumably the same one worn in "New Kid on the Block" and "Krusty Gets Kancelled".
Milhouse's slick blue turtleneck sweater comes straight from the closet of 60s swingers who frequented hotspots like the Playboy Mansion back then.
Krabappel's seductive one piece is the characteristic garment of the Playboy Playmates (sans-ears) that reside at Hefner's Mansion.
All's Fair in Oven War joins the likes of Lisa's Substitute and The Last Tap Dance in Springfield, among many other episodes, which FOX chose to promote their subplots as main plots. Marge hasn'tscene the promo spotlight since EABF0 I guess even after boob jobs and Maxim covers, Marge just still isn't marketable.
