That is what I thought at first, too. When I re-watched the episode, I believe it is a baby alien. Like the one that pops out of someone's belly in the original "Alien" movie.

You're probably better off for it. I am guessing it is a little less commercialized there?
We've got a radio station here that went to Christmas music 24/7 at some point last week. Way, way too early.

Here, we have a much longer but much slower progression, it just sort of seeps in and we all seem to ignore it, until US Thanksgiving comes along and we think "yes, it's time to think about Christmas".
That said, the Santa Claus parade here in Montreal takes place next Saturday, the 21st, and the Toronto Santa Claus Parade is on Sunday the 22nd. And, one department store has had display window for Christmas every year since the forties, and that's already in place when I walked by yesterday.

There's a US station in Vermont that comes in here fine, and they go to the all-Christmas format. Usually around US Thanksgiving, I read somewhere the other day that it will be November 22nd this year (wich makes sense, make the transistion at the start of the week). But one year, 2007 as I recorded it, they were playing Christmas music starting on November 11th, maybe a few days earlier, I didn't check. That seemed a bit much.
And yet, I do sort of envy the US Thanksgiving. It's a marker, and from movies and TV, the day seems more special than we make of Thanksgiving up here. By the time it arrives, it's not really too early to be thinking of Christmas.

We USED to have the clear marking point. The past few years, they've started the Christmas "guaranteed lowest price" sales shortly after Halloween. Since I've not bought any big-ticket items over the past few Christmases, I am not sure how the stores handle it if they have to drop the price again to move more merchandise.
