Island Episode

What was the allusion to in the episode where homer becomes the pulitzer prize winner and goes to that island? What i mean is whether the island was an allusion to a book, because i felt like i was missing a whole running joke throughout the episode despite the other funny moments it had...thank you

That episode is a parody of the 60's TV series "The Prisoner", about a British secret agent-type who tries to resign, and is sent to 'The Village' because he knows too much. 'The Village' is a surreal, Orwellian place, and in each episode he tries somehow to leave, but is foiled by numerous means, including 'Rovers' which are those giant white balloon-type dealies (also in the Simpsons episode). The guest voice is Patrick Magoohan (number 6), who was the star, and producer of "The Prisoner"

I didn't really understand what that episode was about either, until PBS began to run "The Prisoner" in reruns at midnight on Sunday. Now that I get the joke, it really is funny. Aparantly, it is a cult classic, and there are plans to make a movie out of it. There are numerous fan websites as well. Do a search on "The Prisoner", and it'll all mae more sense.

That episode sucked ass... the bit in the Movementarian episode (balloon captures Hans Moleman) was funny and they should have left it at that.

Really..i thought the episode was pretty good...the gags on teh pulitzer and press were pretty funny (especially the pulitzer on santa's little helper)...as for "the prisoner" info...thank you
