BTW, why did I waste my life getting degrees from Georgia Tech and MIT when I could have surfed this newsgroup and used the knowledge gained to do research at Rutgers?

The cool thing about the Simpsons is that an educated man like myself can watch it, be entertained by the humor, satire and the popular culture references, and then discuss it with everyone from kids to the elderly on this ng. And now some college Professors are actually doing the same thing, and calling it research? It's simple. We've defined ourselves as rebels, and in the absence of a repressive milieu our societal nature's been co-opted. See?!?! I can even take an obscure quote from an episode, and stick it into my essay without worrying about whether or not it is actually germane to what we are talking about, and get some of my electronic "friends" to smile! But over at Rugers, they do this for a living.

If some sort of marketing types were doing marketing research to understand why people liked the Simpsons, I could understand. But anything else, forget it. They were probably just re-running the Mensa episode over and over, so that they could stare at Lindsay Naegle's cleavage. Or to see if there were really any she-males in that park.

Now for one more popular culture reference, to make you laugh. But, it is not germane to the Simpsons. The following, meant to be humorous, is a paraphrase of a funny scene from what episode of what long-running TV show? "I can't believe you've taken a TV show that we watch to be entertained, and turned it into a serious research project!!!!! YOU, when was the last time you kissed a girl! And this point that you are making applies to all of television! It is so violent and stupid, .... why single out the Simpsons for criticism? The Simpsons are not violent, and what Homer says is Nobel Prize winning compared to what people like Tim Russert and Rush Limbaugh say!
