GOOFS / FREEZE FRAME / WHATNOT The original press release for the episode made it sound like Joe LaBoot was originally going to be Bill Buckner (best known, unfortunately for him, for letting a ground ball go through his legs that allowed the Mets to win Game 6 of the 1986 World Series).
The signs say "Little League". On an episode of the animated "Clerks" TV series, they could say "Little League", but could not use it in written form for some reason.
Both The Simpsons and Family Guy have done jokes based on Steve Bartman catching a foul ball that Moises Alou was trying to catch in Game 6 of the 2003 ALCS; this led to a rally that allowed the Florida Marlins to win that series, keeping the Chicago Cubs out of their first World Series since 1945. However, on both shows, the person making the catch reaches into the field of play to do so (in which case, the umpires could have called the batter out), but in reality, the ball was over foul territory when Bartman made the catch.
When Bart made his error (both times), the game was in the ninth inning. Little League games last six innings, although it was possible the game went into extra innings.
The game was played on the Isotopes' full-size field, with the bases 90 feet apart and the pitcher's mound 60 1/2 feet from home plate. In Little League, the bases are 60 feet apart, and the pitcher's mound is 46 feet from home plate. (Also, the fence is only supposed to be about 200 feet from home plate, but there is no real requirement that a fence be present.)
Kearney is too old, and Ralph too young, to play Little League baseball.
