"Distraction" Jokes

Distraction jokes are what I call jokes and gags that branch off from the original plot line for a short time and have nothing to do with the plot. My favorite is in the ep where Bart makes the balloon with Principal Skinner on it and the fighter planes try to shoot it down. One fighter plane shoots a missile, which hits the other plane. Then the first plane shoots another missile which hits the plane from which it came. Then the two pilots parachute down and fight each other. ________________________________________________________________

My favorite is definately in "A Separate Vocation", where the milk truck crashes and blows up. There's a running gag on stuff blowing up that shouldn't, and a milk truck blowing up is the best of them. I just love the defiance of all logic of it. I laughed for a couple minutes after I saw it.

My favorite of that running gag was when a bunch of students in Bart's class pushed over the teacher's desk and the desk inexplicably caught on fire. I think it's the episode where Bart is wearing the novelty shirt "Down with Homework"

My favorite is the baby carriage that caught on fire after it was run over.

I also like when Springfield's oldest tree fell down on the log cabin in which Jebediah Springfield was born and it blew up. ________________________________________________________________

That was in Family Guy. Meg had a drag race with an Amish guy on a horse and cart, and the wheel came off the cart. The cart crashes, then explodes, the horse stares at it, then explodes too. Awesome.

How about THOH IV when Otto runs Hans Moleman off the road. Hans stops his AMC Gremlin just before hitting a tree, but it bursts into flames anyway. I love it!

Well, there's that, but it the way it blew up was as if it was gas tanker blew up, implying that the milk was flammable.

Also, bagels are really old donuts.

You know, contrary to what Hollywood might have you believe, not every vehicle that crashes IRL bursts into flames. Petrol (or 'gasoline' if you prefer) there may be, but if there's no source of ignition, there's no fireball. ;o)

My favourite is the TOH about the Gremlin on the bus, when Bart tells Otto about it. Otto sees Hans Moleman driving beside them and rams him off the road. Moleman puts the brakes on and grinds to a halt just before hitting a tree. And then his car blows up ANYWAY. It's just so no-sense-making that it's funny. Like Seinfeld. Only funny.

I think it's a clever take on the fact that _cars_ very rarely explode when they get into accidents (but it's a film and TV staple that they blow up all the time.)
