Yeardley Smith: only Lisa?

Is there a reason that Yeardley Smith only does one voice (Lisa's)? You would think she'd tackle at least a couple more.

I would assume it's because every character she tries to do sounds like Lisa. (She voiced Angela Lansbury on the show once, but it was definitely "Lisa trying to sound like Angela Lansbury".) Sort of like how Julie Kavner only voices Marge and Marge's relatives (who you would expect would sound something like Marge). I can't remember where I saw it, but somebody (I think it was Yeardley herself) once said that she only has "2 1/2 voices"; her own, Lisa, and "something in the middle".

Yeardley did Lisabella in Last Tap Dance in Springfield. Of course, that sounded just like Lisa. I think she also did "we're the lace on your nightgown" in We Put the Spring in Springfield, but I might be wrong. Don't forget Maggie! In some of the TU shorts and many of the episodes (including Maggie's second real word in 3F01) she did Maggie's voice. Julie Kavner has done a few incidental voices as well...the only one I know of off the top of my head is the "always with the magnets" teacher in Dog of Death.

In the actual episodes, the voice actors of Bart and Lisa have stayed the same.

This was a question asked at the SImsons in the Fleash event in Montreal. Yeardley Smith said the really only does one voice -- her own. For Lisa, she just squeezes it up a little higher. I love Lisa's voice -- by far the most expressive and natural of all the characters.
