I read in Entertainment Weekly today that after The Simpsons goes for the 2 more seasons that Fox has signed it for, it will become the longest running sitcom in history.
The question I have is, what is the current holder of that title? I can't think of any sitcom that's run for 15 years.
supposedly, it's ozzie & harriet. that's what i heard anyway, although i can't remember where i heard it. certainly wasn't while watching ozzie & harriet. -AM

Though "The Honemooners" had a 15 year span, counting various specials. "The Jack Benny Show" also ran for 15 years, though very infrequently at times. The radio series can also add an extra ten years to this (or more if you count the times when it was on both radio and TV concurrently).
Longest-running sitcom in the world is - AFAIK - the BBC-made 'Last of the Summer Wine', which has aired almost every year since 1973 (bar two years, which it skipped due to actor unavailability). Because UK season runs are far less, it has "only" notched up around 250 episodes in that time, including some 60 and 90 minute shows. As this is still currently an ongoing show, the longevity title cannot be taken until it finally ends.
