In the Spring Brake episode where the Simpsons go to Florida and kill Cap'n Jack. they get banned from the state of Florida. Then you see homer cross Florida off the map of the USA. all the other states except for Arizona and North Dakota. Homer doesn't want to go to Arizona and Bart said he's always wanted to go to North Dakota. If all the other states were crossed out, Springfield must be in Hawaii or Alaska.
Or maybe they just screwed it up.

In the episode where Homer wins a trip to anywhere in the continental 48 states (the one where Marge has a fear of flying), and he asks the family where they want to go, Bart yells out Alaska and Lisa yells out Hawaii. It can't be those two states.
I havn't moved onto here like on you said on SC, I just thought I'd post that after I saw that episode last week.
Uh huh...that's not the first time someone has brought that up. If you listen to that radio interview someone posted a link to the other day, you'll find that while MG flat out refuses to say where springield is (which doesn't necessarily mean he's admitting that it's actually anywhere) the only thing he does say is that it definitely isn't in Hawaii. So according to your theory that leaves Alaska and I don't think any other evidence ever given points to Alaska.

Really, dude...but it was mentioned somewhere (the capsule for that episode?) that those Xs just mean they're not welcome in those particular states...they could easily live in one of them anyway.

You'll find that the western side of Hawaii's big island is very much a desert. If the resorts hadn't invested a serious ammount of money in bringing water down from the mountains, that side would be pretty dead. As it is, things are very barren away from the coast.
If you ever visit there, Hawaiians will be very proud to tell you that Hawaii has nearly every climate that exists on earth, including tropical rainforest and conditions that are similar to sub-arctic tundra.
Of course, it's a very rocky desert thanks to Madame Pele.
There are other indications that it's not Hawaii, most of which have been discussed to death...

In "Fear of Flying" Homer receives a fre trip for the family to visit any state in the Continental U.S. Lisa wants to go to Hawaii and Bart wants to go to Alaska. D'oh. But Lisa gets her wish when she goes to Hawaii in "Little Big Mom." There, deal with the fact that we will never know where they are from. It's an ongoing joke that keeps going because people don't realize that it's an ongoing joke.
D'oh is right, because most definitions of "continental united states", especially those used by travel agencies and airlines, do not include Alaska and Hawaii. Some include Hawaii, but almost none include Alaska. So neither Bart nor Lisa would have gotten their wish in this case.

Ok that can't be, because I'm pretty sure they've driven out of state in a couple episodes. Not only that, there are Springfields in 48 of the 50 states. Which two don't have any? Hawaii and Alaska. I can tell you, its not the one in Virginia.. we have no nuclear power plant here!
According to the USGS database only 36 states and 1 territory (Virgin Islands) have Springields. Although it is true that Alaska and Hawaii do not.
