They show the Twin Towers and then load the missles and take down the Mad building.
Maybe enough time has past...They should show the Simpsons in NY ep now.

I don't know about where you live, but I know that the New York episode was only pulled out of syndication temporarily. It has since been restored, and I've seen it many many times since 9/11.

I'm in NY - I, personally, don't remember seeing the NY one being shown since 9/11 - where Homer has to watch his car outside of the WTC.
The Mad Magazine/Party Posse one- it's more likely that they played it since 9/11 - and I just missed it - but maybe someone else could verify both eps being played or not on FOX 5 NY and/or other stations in the US/World since 9/11...
"The City Of New York Vs. Homer Simpson" has NOT (note the capital letters for emphasis) been played on WNYW (our local FOX affiliate and only outlet for the Simpsons) since before 9/11. I e-mailed WNYW about this and they stated the show hadn't run since March of 2001.
It has been shown elsewhere. It was pulled from syndication immediatley after 9/11 but was returned a few months later.
"New Kids On The Bleech!" has been repeated on WNYW many times (too many) since 9/11.

Ok, thanks... It's interesting that the scene where they take down the Mad building is actually more graphic (shows image of WTC and shortly after that - missles take down Mad building) than just the image of Homer running inside the WTC. (No explosions involved.)

There was never an "order" to not air it. However, FOX did notify all it's affiliates about the episode and it's potentially offensive content right after 9/11.
It did air in Albany recently. Not in NYC.

maybe you new yorkers should actually try and get it shown again. start a petition or something. I don't think anybody would be so terribly effected by the fact that Homer's at the WTC. In fact, when I see it I rarely think of 9/11.

i guess. but my guess is that like us non 9/11 families, we'll have mixed reactions. i'm sure there are tons of people out there who are offended by that episode (today), and tons more who aren't. i guess they won't know if they don't actually show the episode. i mean, they make fun of vietnam and world war II all the time on the show, and you don't see anybody freaking out about that. besides, the people watching it ought to be mature enough to know that's just the simpsons.
I'm a direct 9/11 victim and I hate the whining these people do anytime some project is proposed for the WTC site.
I think 5 years is long enough without airing this show in NYC. After 9/11/06, it's time to play it.
Not showing the episode with Homer in NYC guarding his car near the WTC is a good idea.
The other day the Ellis Island documentary that is shown on the History Channel as often as "PRISON RODEO" is shown on WFXT was on again. There is the camera shot with Ellis Island in the foreground and the WTC, still under construction, in the background. Kind of sad to look at, but it was made 25 years ago so I don't blame anyone for anything.

I am using the Ellis Island documentary as an example. It includes a shot of the WTC. And they leave the WTC shot in when they show the documentary. Which is often. The Ellis Island documentary is very old and is supposed to be serious and should not have the WTC shot taken out. The goofball simpsons episode is relatively new and is supposed to be very funny, so maybe the WTC part should be taken out. As for "PRISON RODEO", that episode is on WFXT all the time. The same way that the Ellis Island documentary is on the History Channel all the time. Didn't you ever watch Dennis Miller on Monday Night Football?

And, as I was saying before - the Mad Magazine ep shows intent in that there is an image of the WTC towers and then, shortly after that - they missle the Mad building. (Of course they make light of it by saying "Are you hurt?" ..."No, me either..." etc.)
So, it's like something being taboo for the sake of being taboo...

"Homer Simspon vs. the City of New York" aired here in Phoenix just a couple of weeks ago, and has aired multiple times since 2001. Some people said there was a heavily edited version that removed the Towers, but the version that airs here is the regular syndication edit.
I think going out of the way to not draw attention to it is inadvertantly drawing attention to it. If the ep was just casually played, people wouldn't even notice and move on.
