The banner, which is supposed to be a meta-humor reference, states that this is the 305th "Everything's Back to Normal Barbeque". However, this is actually the 306th episode.

The end of the Itchy and Scratchy cartoon refers to one of the darkest days in music history. In the winter of 1959, Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper, three popular singers at the time, were riding an airplane to arrive to a gig that the three were performing at. However, the plane ended up crashing, with none of the singers surviving. This day is commonly refered to many as "The Day the Music Died". The films "The Buddy Holly Story" and "La Bamba" chronicle the lives Holly and Valens, respectively. Note: This isn't the first time this incident was referenced on the Simpsons (Sideshow Bob Roberts also made reference to the incident by having all three singers be among the bogus names of people voting for Sideshow Bob).

Thanks! And since carbon is black (unless it's in the form of diamond), I guess the rod must be coated or painted. Perhaps it got a new coat of paint when it won the Employee of the Month award. That's why it looks brighter now... ?
