After the clip show aired where there was a image of homer jumping a shark, people went to the website and voted for that moment to be when the show jumped the shark. But at that point, no one had seen what came after that episode, so how can they tell that at that moment the show had reached its prime and it was downhill from there if they had not seen what came after it yet? They couldn't.

I wish we could. It's one of the most stupid expressions I have seen. "Jump the shark" to refer to when a show is past its prime, they could have used a better phrase.

It is jumping the shark because the simpsons are doing very stupid things for laughs which relate to nothing in the show and it's nothing but downhill from here. No, I understand what it means...I don't think you do. Any little thing that you think is for no reason does not constitute jumping the shark. Also, you can't jump the shark more than once. Maybe you should read the explantion...it is the ONE defining moment where the show starts to go down hill. You can't very well tell if ralph peeing or whatever else you have voted for is the defining moment before any subsequent episodes air.

I hate to get involved in this argument but it seemed to me that there was a rather obvious reason for Ralph to pee his pants. It was showing contrast between Lisa's contemporaries and her new college friends. It was showing how much more mature she is then her elementary school peers. For the same reason, I agree with some others who have posted that they didn't like the ending since Lisa regresses back to being an elementary school student after she had been accepted as a college student. The other reason that the peeing scene is viable is that its FUNNY. The Simpsons is a comedy, as some people have forgotten. You may not think that that joke is funny but thats all it is: a joke and from the posts on a.t.s that I've read it seems like people were split. About half of the posters thought it was very funny and the other half hated it. I would have to say the Simpsons has never jumped the shark and I have voted for that so I don't you to post the link anymore but if I had to say something had caused them to jump the shark I would say it is more of a gradual thing in that they started having WAAAAY too many unfunny celebritites on the show. Just my opinion.
