Stephen Sondheim has had a legendary career when it comes to Broadway musicals. Taking mentorship from famed lyricist Oscar Hammerstein III, Sondheim first made it big writing the lyrics for the hit musicals West Side Story and Gypsy. Years later, he did his first "music and lyrics" work with A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. This lead to four decades of him creating the music for various musicals, including Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George, and Into the Woods.
