For anyone who doesn't get the Roman Polanski joke, in 1977, Polanski pleaded guilty to having unlawful sex with a 13-year old girl. However, rather than staying for the sentencing, Polanski fled the United States, with him avoiding U. S. authorites until 2009.
The Ricky Gervais bit (with him being banned from the Golden Globes) refers to his controversial monologue at this year's Golden Globes, which included some major take thats at the nomination for The Tourist in the major comedy movie categories (with him suggesting that the people who made the film bribed the Hollywood Foreign Press in order to receive the Golden Globe nods).
META-HUMOR: During the Golden Globes acceptance speech, Homer mentions how the Angry Dad voice is partially based around Walter Mattheau.
