Hi, folks. Perhaps this has been discussed before, but I'm new here and I don't see it in the FAQ.
Has anyone else noticed that we've been given (at least) two reasons for Homer's stupidity? In one episode (sorry -- I'm not the type of fan that knows the episode titles), it was because he had a crayon in his brain; in another, the male Simpson plague is revealed. Alas, two reasons. Which do you think we should consider more canonical? Which came last?
If the Simpson gene was credible, why would Homer's brother be such a successful business man? And how come no doctor would notice the crayon? I think he is just naturally stupid.

The crayon idea was retarded, and the show's (bad) writers maintain no continuity. Lately the show has fallen off dramatically - I only wish more people could see that.
I don't think he's stupid. He's great at pretty much all sports and has suceeded in almost every job that he's ever had (and that's a lot). He just has a low attention span.

Last night they showed the episode where he broke his jaw. Hibbert held up the X-ray of Homer's haid to show the broken jaw, and there, in his brain, was the crayon! Good continuity blip there.

I love the phrase canonical as applied to a TV show. Getting to be as bad a Star Trek Fans/weenies (Why to the TOS Klingons look different from the TNG Kligons? "I sure hope somebody got fired for that one!").

However, the crayon has shown up in at least one subsequent episode: in "Jaws Wired Shut", a head x-ray reveals a broken jaw and -- yep, you guessed it -- a crayon. The good doctor now knows not to obscure details with his thumb.
