It's been shown before. It was a retread of the intro to "The Ziff Who Came To Dinner". The pullback shows the Simpsons house is in Michigan.

Incidentally the sequence is a rip-off (homage) of 'Cosmic Zoom' an animated short from the National Film Board of Canada.

The whole sequence has been re-edited from the original version shown on "The Ziff Who Came To Dinner". It's been shortened, sounds have been added, and, as you said, "wow" was changed to "cool".

No idea why. I like the original.

Also, there are glaciers in the USA. I think we even have a park called Glacier National Park. I think that's like in Montana, though.

Certainly, but my recollection of viewing the intro the other night, it was more like the middle Northern portion of the 48 contiguous states.

Of course, distance to something is no indicator. The SImpsons seem able to travel anywhere with virtually no time involved. The only time comes up is when they want to show someone saying "are we there yet, are we there yet..."
