Not to mention the fact that "Behind the Laughter" was a non-continuity episode. In other words, nothing said in it is part of the canon, or can be used as evidence for any particular theories about OFF.
Just live with the fact that Springfield is an "Anytown, USA", and get on with your life.

This is weird. I've always read these threads about where Springfield is and thought the same way you did... That Groening purposely didn't want to specify what state they were in... and maybe he even enjoyed the "discussion" that was created. Why not, that would be a fun thing for him to do...
However, after watching Behind the Laughter.... it is totally clear that the Simpsons live in Kentucky. The whole "mocumentary" goes with the concept that the Simpsons really exist, and the show is about them, their friends and neighbors, and everyone plays themselves (Remember the cop saying that he never wanted to be an actor, but after Moe got a part.....).
So, if it's all supposed to be based on reality, and since they clearly say "this Northern Kentucky family", then, if they live in Kentucky in "real life", there is no reason to believe they don't also live in Kentucky on the show.
I think Groening is just the type that doesn't want "discussion". He wanted to end it once and for all, in a subtle way, by telling us where they live.
You can argue... and Little Girl can insult.... but we all know what we heard.

That was part of the joke. It's impossible for Springfield to be located in Kentucky, or any other state for that matter. The writers intentionally put conflicting information in the show so they don't have to specify where Springfield is.

There are many reasons to believe that Springfield is not in Kentucky. Kentucky does not contain all of the geographic features that Springifeld has. The entire point of "Behind the Laughter" was that the entire "origin" presented in the episode was a fabrication that conflicted with the rest of the series in obvious ways.
Knowing what you heard and understanding the joke are two separate things.
