Edna’s confiscation of the students cell phones actually stems upon an issue that’s a big issues in schools these days: whether or not students are allowed to bring cell phones to school. On one side, cell phones allow for parents to keep in touch with their kids, especially when it comes to emergencies. On the other hand, as this episode points out, cell phones in the classroom could be very distacting, thanks to the various features that appear on newer cell phones (which would take students attention away from learning) and all the noise that can be made as a result of people talking on their phones, typing text messages to others, and the loud sound that can be via the phone’s “vibrate” function.

Since some of the bookstore-coffee shops are also muffin stores, maybe this is a trick question? They could have spoofed "Dunkin' Donuts". They sell muffins, too.

I think this episode could well be the lowest point of the entire series. It was sterile and cold, utterly unfunny and the most -un- simpson-like episode yet. Even many of the voices were unrecognisable to me - Krabapple in particular. As much as I love the Simpsons, its time to call it a day.

Its almost as though the current crop of so-called writers are aware that the end is near, and just write material to amuse themselves, rather than maintain any consistency and quality of previous seasons.

Huh. I certainly didn't think it was the worst episode of the series--there are a few I really actively dislike, such as I, D'ohbot or last season's Dangerous Curves. But I can see what you mean about it being very un-Simpson-like. Edna's drunken antics, in particular, just seemed out of place.

I don't think they're trying to amuse themselves, though. I think they're trying to fit in with newer animated comedies that appeal to a younger audience. I think they're trying to be like Family Guy and such.

Everyone will have a different 'worst' list. For me, this one was particularly awful - and that's saying something - considering the steady decline over the years. Going back to the earlier seasons, the contrast is just huge.

You may well be right, I'm not very familiar with those shows as I don't actually watch TV. But if that's the reasoning behind it, then I'd consider it to be as bad as my theory :)

I'm actually considering no longer watching any future shows. It affects me more than I'd care to admit to see what they've done to the Simpsons. A lot of the 'humour' now does nothing for me whatsoever.

I did consider stop watching the show last season, but its a very hard thing to do, after 20 or so years! I probably wont be able to do it now, either...
