Homer's Celebrity Roast (DABF12) questions

I know it's been a while but it just replayed tonight and I avoided it the first time it was aired...the hideous awfulness of this episode is truly mind-boggling...anyhow --

1. When we see the clips of the old shows, is the audience at the roast seeing them too? How can this be since none of those clips were supposedly captured on film/tape (in the Simpson's universe)?

2. When Homer reminisces about the family car, the last clip is of him driving off the cliff ..... but it's Moe's car he's driving, for purposes of insurance fraud, not the Simpson car!

3. When Kang and Kodos put the mind probe on Maggie at the end of the episode, to reveal her memories, almost none of the "clips" we're shown were of scenes in which she was even there! They're mostly of celebrity guest appearances.

4. WHY is Homer dressed like Forrest Gump in the beginning of the show? For that matter, why are Moe and Dr. Hibbert dressed up?

Was this the clip from "Dumbbell Indemnity?"

I do know that the clip show was titled "Gump Roast." I also know the writers seem to do a lot of wordplay with episode titles, and until now, never figured why they called this one Gump....I guess now it fits?

These aren't questions.

It's making a reference to the Forrest Gump movie, in which Forrest is sitting at a bus stop waiting for a bus and meanwhile tells his life story to people that sit with him.

Yes, but the show generally abides by the rules of any other sitcom (besides the whole "they don't age" thing).

The answer to all your questions is that Gump Roast is a bad episode, and was made bad purposely since they hate making clip shows.

By flashback episode, do you mean clipshows or episodes like "Lisa's First Word"? In clip shows and episodes like "I Married Marge" or "And Maggie Makes THree" it's usually just someone remembering it or telling the story, so it's illustrated for us. Nothing bad about that. However, in "Gump Roast" and "All Singing, All Dancing" they play videos of things which couldn't possibly have been recorded. That's the bad stuff. Every flashback doesn't have this problem though.
