What episode has the line "Extended warranty! How could I lose" -Homer

I am SICK of those idiots hawking their damn expensive warranties at me, they just don't know the word no. Talk about a rip-off also, if any of my shit breaks I'll take it back to the store and I won't leave until they give me a new one or all my money back. I wish America would realize the idiocy of these damn warranties so that I can shop in peace. I'm glad at least the writers of the Simpsons know of it.

It's the episode where Homer discovers there's a crayon in his head. The line comes when Moe is replacing the crayon.

I saw that episode a few days after experiencing the uselessness of my extended warrenty.

It was like a slap in the face.

Exactly do these people know they are selling garbage or do they think we are just stupid.

Of course they're selling garbage, but everyone is selling garbage, even the people not selling extended warrenty.

The only time extended warrenties are any good is if it's high priced electronic items (A video camera), and the warrenty at least doubles the manufacturers warrenty...

Places like radio shack are a complete rip off... 30 day retailer warrenty... useless. Why the hell should I have to pay extra to know that my piece of crap is going to work for a whole year?

Which they've just summoned up here in Denmark. Actually, it's a while ago they summoned up, but they only air The Simpsons 3 times a week.

I have to admit, though, that the tonights episode had me cracking (it was Jaws Wired Shut)

There must be some joke or connection about that episode title I'm just not getting.

I don't get it either.

I don't get episode titles.

No, the cretins are just trying to make as much money as they can, despite how stupid their "service or product" is.

What sucks the most is that these warranties run concurrent with the manufactures warranty. So if you purchase a 3-year extended warranty, you're only going to get two years out of it once the manufactures expires.

That's not how they work here - the extended warrantee doesn't kick in until the statutory 1 year warrantee expires.

In article ,

Here (Canada) it's "the American way", but I think theoretically you're supposed to gain during the first year too, by getting the store to take care of your problems instead of finding a service center. I'm not sure, I never tried it, since I'm slightly smarter than Homer.

My doohickey breaks, and it's fixed for free? That doesn't sound so bad. That's good piece of mind, there.

Most places selling extended warrenties have a 30 day, 1 year, or two year warrenty for free, and sell extra years. The better shops just give a 5 year warrenty for free to begin with.

It's only free if the extended warranty was free. Most of the time, the *covered* (another gotcha) repairs are far less than what the extended warranty costs.

Some things just don't usually break down on their own. Like VCRs or DVD players. Why get an extended warranty on a $150 DVD player or a $99 VCR? ________________________________________________________________

Uhhh... dumbass the damn warranty isn't free... they wanted $39.99 for my mp3 player!!!!!!

So lets do the math... I give them $39.99 in exchange for nothing.

Net profit to me, -$39.99

Oh oh, please take my money, I don't want it, its YOURS!!!!

IDIOT.

I go back to the store and I demand a new one or my money back. If I pay $200 for an mp3 player, then you better believe that it will work.

["iggy17ren"; Mon, 20 Jan 2003 20:31:54 GMT]

Yeah, but what if it breaks six months from now? They obviously won't take the machine back at the store. From what I see, you'd pretty much have to buy a new device -- or pay a bunch to "enfixen" it.

JD44C8/USA. It's perfectly cromulent.
Sydney AssbasketJD44C8/USA

You would have to weigh the odds of the thing breaking against the price of the warranty. I would buy a warranty on a big ticket item like a TV, but not on a DVD player or a VCR. Maybe not even on an mp3 player, unless it's a Magnetbox. ________________________________________________________________

In the UK, you couldn't get a brand-new replacement in those circumstances, but the shop *is* legally obliged to arrange the warrantee repair.
