which episode was the season premiere?

Last weekend's episode, How I Spent My Strummer Vacation (DABF22), was publicised in Fox commercials as the season premiere. However, Treehouse XIII was shown the previous week. Shouldn't Treehouse XIII be the season premiere? Sorry if this has been discussed before.

I think they treat the Halloween show as a special. Not part of the regular series, in sequence or content.

The only reason it comes before the season premiere is because the premiere comes after Halloween.

Another way to look at it might be to consider the Halloween special as part of the previous season, just delayed to coincide, sort of, with Halloween.

In the past, the Halloween shows were often one of the first episodes of the new production series. (8F02, 2F03, 4F02, 5F02), not always of course. So I think that they actually belong to the season in which they are shown, not the previous season.

You could think of them as a "special" but then that means that every season that has a Halloween Show has one episode less. Season 2 really has 21 episodes, not 22?

On the official website of The Simpsons, the Halloween shows are listed with the other episodes of the season and the first episode of season 12 is "Treehouse of Horror XI" even though the season premiere was "A Tale of Two Springfields". That's why I said that for season 14, the first episode of the season is "Treehouse of Horror XIII" and that the season premiere is "How I Spent My Strummer Vacation". So for Fox, the season premiere doesn't really mean the first episode of the season as it should mean.

nor does "season finale" necessarily mean the last episode either, as we'll recall the confusion last season with The Frying Game and Poppa's Got A Brand New Badge. the former was the season finale, but the latter was the "last" episode - which they called a bonus or special episode or something like that.
