What real state and city does the Simpsons live in?

That is the whole point!! That is just something they like to play around with. There is not a city in existence that could be so many different things like Springfield. If you follow the epsides they make it out in so many different episodes that it is all over the place.

I think Springfield is in a bottle somewhere.

When I was a kid, in the Superman comic books there was a whole city from Krypton that was kept in a big bottle. It had been shrunk by some evil genious, and somehow landed on Earth. It was kept in a bottle to protect it, or to emulate the environment of Krypton.

To some extent, that episode where Lisa creates life in a dish and watches over it is similar.

I have no idea how Springfield landed in a bottle, or why, but it certainly has a level, of isolation that doesn't exist in the real world. And everytime they go anywhere, they don't really have to travel very far.

Not on Earth. The full moon wasn't in it's proper place in last night's episode. My theory is that they call our Sun "Rigel," and Kang and Kodos are from there. So, it's the FUTURE or something, and Kang and Kodos's species took over Earth and absorbed their language or something, and the humans had to make an exodus to Torcularis Septentrionalis.
