the song in the episode where itchy and scratchy get cancelled because of marge... the kids go out and play when itchy and scratchy get toned down, and they kids to out to play, you hear this music playing... it isnt original to the simpsons, i have heard it before, could someone identify this song for me please???

I haven't seen that episode in a while (our stupid local station insists on showing Season 10-12 garbage), so I always thought the song was from Dvorak's 9th Symphony, (Symphony from the New World).

And FWIW, the episode capsule at snpp.com [7F09] claims the music is the first 53 bars of Beethoven's 6th symphony (the Pastoral, IIRC -- I haven't listened to the 6th in a while).

It's Beethoven's 6th Symphony (Pastoral?). You may have heard it in Fantasia, during the Greek mythology segment. It's one of my favorites :)

In the words of the great Ed McMahanon "You are correct sir!" It is Vivaldi's Spring from Four Seasons. The basis of this is my older brother who is a Classical Music Major at the University of Washington.

Also please back me up when I state that getting a Classical Music Degree is a waste of time and money. He seems to diagree.
