Just watching the end of tonight's new episode. What is with all the singing ? If this is the rest of the season is going to be like that, then cancel the show.

Well, we were tipped off that this was going to be a musical episode (and not the first.) Frankly, the music was the only good thing about this stinker.
Man, I hope they get better. There might of been 1 maybe 2 chuckles though the whole show but, over all, it sucked.
Even a lot of people posted on last years episodes how bad they where but, there was a bunch of chuckes though the whole show, but, over all I found them injoyable.
Tonights, really sucked.

Jeez, I can't believe the narrow mindedness that abounds in this group. You all complain that the show's getting stale, so they try something different, and you still complain about it. If you know so damned much about how to write a show, and keep it fresh after 14 years, then why the hell don't you just do it. If they need new writers, go be one.
Just sitting around whining about something without doing a single thing to change it is just being a crybaby. Make the improvements to bring the show up to your personal standards, or just stop watching it if it offends you so much.

Same thing holds here...I wouldn't complain about stale if they were good episodes. Give me stale like episodes from Seasons 1 - 4 when they shows had plots and real characters. I mean, Homer runs around wearing a tutu?? All the writers on this show and that was the best they could come up with?
Of course, I hate musical episodes anyway. I had such high hopes for this one -- a Simpson running for class president -- a great premise for an episode. In the end, it turns out they developed it better back in "Lisa's Substitute" and it was only the B plot in that episode.
I did enjoy the casino part in Act I, though. Too bad it went downhill from there.

Ok, with that in mind, I watched it again, and it was not great but, it didn't totally suck.
I hope they stay away from singing, I was never crazy about it, and I know a lot of people agree with me here...

I can see you not liking this episode if you didn't like the plot, but if you did like the plot, then you have to realize that the musical numbers were essential if they wanted to execute the story well. Imagine the episode with out them for just a moment: every plot point covered in the songs would still have to be covered, however it would take longer. Scenes like the debate would have been dragged on, most likely utilizing lots of childish humor and would become boring very fast. Also, some of the better jokes which weren't related to the plot would have been left out of the episode because of time constraints and everything else would be rushed giving the episode an entirely unenjoyable pace. Songs can cover much more plot in less time and still be humorous in doing so. Just look at Marge vs. the Monorail for instance. A whole new plot element was introduced through song smoothly and efficiently and took, at most, two minutes. The same applies in this episode, however there was more plot to be explained, hence the extra songs. So tell me, how would eliminating the songs make the episode and better? Unless you enjoy disgustingly fast-paced, unfunny episodes with underdeveloped plots, I don't think you can come up with a legitimate answer to that.
