A much better episode than a week ago. What a relief. Corny ending, though.
1. Geezer Rock is a take off on The Old Man in the Mountain, a New Hampshire rock attraction that started to fall apart 40 years ago, was held up with supports for many years, and finally collapsed recently. 2. Quimby calls Lisa "Liser Simpson". That is totally a Boston area accent. 3. "Souless piece of granite" sounds a lot like "inanimate carbon rod". 4. When the astronaut was reading the paper in outer space, the Great Lakes were in the wrong place, and James Bay was on the wrong side of Hudson's Bay. 5. Channel 6 Still in English. 6. Burns bought Channel 6, KBBL, and The Springfield Shopper. 7. When Lisa told Bart to add a runny nose to the caricature of Skinner, he replied "snot a problem, chief". shades of "I bazoom you want a table?" 8. BUrns refers to television as "Jumping Box" and "Pic-To-Cube". 9. Boobarella was based on Elvira, or Cassandra Peterson in real life. 10. Burns Weekly "It's Too Late". 11. The dancing horses was one of the best scenes ever. IMHO. 12. "Lisa To Burns: Drop Dead". In 1975, when New York City was in trouble, and President Gerald Ford refused to help them, the headlines read: "Ford to New York: Drop Dead". 13. "Ralph Wiggum's Oscar picks". 14. Ralph's article in the Chicago paper: "I Can Go On The Bus". I assume this was some sort of bathroom humor. 15. The editorial cartoon featured Smithers' head attached to the locomotive, and Skinner in the background. 16. Burns called Smithers "curtsey boy". 17. League of Evil. 18. The other homegrown newspapers were being hawked by Barney, Disco Stu, Frink, Willie, Nelson, LENNY, and Marge's sisters.
