The comment was totally boorish (something I'd expect more from "Family Guy" than from Homer) and cruel for even Homer. Of course, the joke was that Ned 'walked right into that one,' though Homer's reply was a total non sequitur. Still, geez.

Too, it's inconsiderate to those in the audience who HAVE lost a spouse.

Personally, I think Lisa's portrayal as a lonely geek is inconsiderate to those of us who actually were lonely geeks in high school. Also, I think the portrayal of Barney as an alcoholic is inconsiderate to those of us who actually know an alchoholic...see how ridiculous this could get in a damn hurry?

I thought it was one of the funniest lines in the show.. and Homer has always been an insensitive jerk. I mean come on, he chokes his son, he drove Frank Grimes to killing himself, then fell to sleep at his funeral, he let someone who attempted to kill Bart (Sideshow Bob) live with them, he has always been fairly selfish and ultra offencive. He's always been very mean to Flanders (I'm fairly sure he has attempted to kill Flanders a few times). Why act surprised now?

After all, that joke made me laugh out loud. There are not many shows which actually make me laugh out loud.. In fact, I think The Simpsons is about the only one.. And The Simpsons has been consistantly funny for years.

I agree. I'm not saying it was wrong for the writers to put it in, but it IS rude even for Homer. And it was funny, in that "Family Guy" sort of way ...
