The Simpsons used to be really funny because it was more realistic and didn't have stupid celebrities all the time.
The Simpsons didn't always have a realistic storyline but it was more realistic than today why? change in writers Conan knows good comedy everyone likes, the new writers make stupid unrealistic storylines that goes nowhere and doesn't make much sense.
The Simpsons should be cancelled or at least have the writers changed because the classic ways of The Simpsons has been ruined forever.

Fox doesn't have a clue... they merely buy the sleaziest new offerings, toss them out there, let them run FAR after they should have been canned, and hope the public likes them.
Look how long "Married With Children" ran.. at least three years after it should have been retired with some form of dignity.. for crying out loud, Kelly was almost 30!

I don't watch any of their crap, except the Simpsons, and I do hate the fact that when I watch football on Fox, or NASCAR, I am constantly barraged with sleazy promos for their sleazy, no brainer half-hour cesspools of wasted time, masquerading as sitcoms.
It is possible for sitcoms to be done with class, yes, to even be racy, and still be something that challenges the mind, something that makes one feel refreshed. Thing is, shows like that cost money - they actually have competent writing and production staffs. Fox apparently hates to spend money, because look at what they show.

the simpsons is one of the best reflections on todays social condition that we have. it is "pop-culture" because it is good and therefore POPULAR. i hate when people dismiss something as irellevant just because it has some kind of following or comercial value. as for the simpsons being more realistic in the past!!! were you facing the wall when it was on? the inclusion of celebraties allows more relevance to the criticisims or comments that it makes on our society. if it wanted to address curent issues without refering to people you would reconise it would only have to base new characters on famous people anyway, and then you'd probably moan about that! i don't see why you would want a story that didn't include any reference or relevance to your own life or culture, and i especialy can't see why you'd then call this more "realistic".
With respect to the celebrities on the show, almost of them manage to totally make fun of themselves. The worst thing in the world is a TV or movie actor, or popular musician who takes him- or herself too seriously.
The new writers really made me feel completely alienated, The Simpsons are nothing like what it used to be just like Everclear, who is a sellout traitor who went from Alt. Rock to Rap to Pop Rock.
