Has Ian ever written an episode that wasn't pure obnoxious incompetence?
Jesus Christ, that sucked ass
completely agree. filler
Well, Lisa Gets An A was alright, but excluding that, no. Why on earth is he still on staff? Ever since season 8 he's been rubbish. And he doesn't like us internet folks. "That's why they're on the internet and we're on the show." he once said. Really Ian? Give me your job and I guarantee I'd do it at least ten times better....

He has a point. And no, you wouldn't. Fan fiction is usually garbage, and any shows an interet geek would write would be so bad or based on such obscure references that no one would know what was going on.

Average Simpson Script: 12 writers and that's all they do. Average Fanscript: 1 person writing in their spare time.
So unless the show was written by ONE person or 12 fan fiction writers came together and quit their normal jobs, it's not really much of a comparison.
Also, It is forbidden to submit scripts to FOX; they'll be destroyed by some secretary before anyone sees them. The way you get hired is by knowing the right people and not necessarily by having writing talent.
The problem with writing in a group of people is that often the message you are trying to WRITE IS CHANGED INTO A BEAUTIFUL LANDSCRAPE WHERER PEOPLE explain why goats like to eat tin cans WHILE WATCHING RERUNS OF HOGANS HEROS.
... and that is the problem with having 12 odd writers

Yes, I would.
Why is this relevant to me? I've never written any "fan fiction". I don't see how you can judge me on something other people have done.

Wow, it's, er, like you've, er, known me all my, er, life.
No, he certainly has not. Apparently his bosses seem to think that emulating "The Family Guy" is a good idea. And aren't you getting tired of characters on the show pulling at their collars and gagging? That joke was old the second time I saw it. Now, I can pretty much count on it happening every show.

Hmmm... I am certain, first of all, that Jesus Christ is thrilled with your reference to him. I am just curious, do you people ever enjoy an episode? Listening to some of you say - or even insinuate - that you could do better is like Vanilla Ice claiming to be a better songwriter than Bob Dylan. Then again, you may just agree with that. It's too bad you can't get a foot in the door of the writing team for the simpsons or you might just be able to improve on the most successful animated series of all time. Obnoxious incompetence? That should be your epitaph. Here Lies Pazuzu Obnoxious incompetence.... Not just regular incompetence, Obnoxious incompetence. One more question, have you ever thought of suing the Simpsons for obviously stealing your identity when they created the comicbook guy? WORST NEWSGROUP EVER!
Ooh, looks like we've got a live one here!

Yes, we're entertained at some level, so that's why we watch the show and pay attention to it.
How do you know if one is 'capable of doing better'? Have you taken the time to get to know every person here personally and sat down and read what kind of script they've put their effort into? Using your mentality, I could say all the people who defend the show are nothing more than mindless sheep who say the show 'rulez' just becasue it's the Simpsons and are they type that'll say the show is the 'best thing ever' if there was an episode where Homer took a shit for 22 minutes. (Plus you'd add: it's better than 109% of the rest of TV!!!!1!!)
Whether or not the show is success means little if I don't like the direction the show (was) going. Telling everyone to either like the show or shut up is like saying I can't agree with Bush Jr. because he makes more money than I do.
You must've had a lot of time to think this through.
Maybe you should copyright this bit of dialog since you obviously think you're the first person to say/think it.

Now THAT I'll have to agree with. Most tv is crap these days. I do love the cartoon Home Movies, however.
I don't believe I said like the show or shut up. As a matter of fact, I'm certain I didn't say that.
Not really, just felt like ranting.
Cool. Well, as long as you're comfortable with being like that lummox, good for you. We should all be more comfortable with who we are. Hats off to you.
Even if he did post some, can you honestly say that if his scripts were the greatest thing ever written, you would eat your words and accept that he's a better writer than most people on the Simpsons staff? I don't think you would, somehow.
"felt", huh? Well most human beings combine their "feelings" with "thoughts". Try it before your next post.

HOMER:
This is terrible...now I'm supposed to live out my days sober and salt free. I feel like a guest at a Ralph Nader's Bachelor party...
MARGE:
Homer, look at it this way--you have a family that loves you and cares about you no matter what happens....even if you don't have a job.
HOMER:
(apathetic)Thanks for bringing that up, Marge.
MARGE:
Don't be so hard on yourself. Every family has a period where things don't go right--our family that seems to be more often than others--but I'm sure we'll pull through like always. Just yesterday, I realized I had a very good shot at becoming a phone solicitor at Billbo Baggage...
FLASHBACK to yesterday at B.B. MARGE and two other women are with Lindsey Nagel in a colorless, hopeless office full of gloomy, gray cubicles and equally gloomy employees.
LINDSEY:
So, ladies...with BB's new and improved Telezapper Zapper, we have the technology and heartlessness to annoy and find a new customer base. It's like "New Coke", but with the "Drink it and like it!" attitude!
MARGE raises her hand.
LINDSEY:
Yes, Marge?
MARGE:
But won't people be annoyed with us calling them at dinner time and, ah...snuggle time?
LINDSEY:
Actually, snuggle time is a bunch of crap, Marge. You see, the average American is in so much debt from buying stuff from places like us, they work like a dogs to pay their creditors, they don't have time for sex and because they don't have time to actually have sex, much less a real family dinner, their families are in constant chaos, which makes them off-balance, and ready to make snap judgments at "dinner" time, like buy stuff from some stranger over the phone.
MARGE:
Really, how do you know all of this?
LINDSEY leans in for a close whisper to Marge.
LINDSEY:
Marge, between you and me, with the US government is actually serious debt, we actually purchased two-thirds of the FBI on Ebay and now they do what we say, or else we give their family's home numbers and credit histories to less-friendly telemarketers like me and soon to be you!
CUT TO Nelson has he has a printout of phone numbers in his left hand dials a number with his right. A person answers with a 'hello?'.

I'd rather Futurama go on than see the current show continue, but that's another story...
Said or implied, you basically used vocal diarrhea on anyone wasn't pleased with the show. "No. The show doesn't suck. You suck. Let see YOU do better" was the message to your post. I might not be able to waltz on down the street and get hired, but that doesn't mean I can't have an opinion on the show. It's like saying people can't have an opinion on abortion if they haven't had one.

So, let me see if I've got this straight, it's ok to post negative comments but not ok to disagree with them or post positive comments. Got it.
Thanks, I'll call your therapist...
Well, the point of this newsgroup is to critique the show with both positive AND negative feedback. The only reason I said anything in this topic is you decided to be superfan and try to compare those whom you disagreed with as a CBG-clone, thinking you're somehow the first individual to do so. You really have to understand the Pitts to really get into the show. Basically, you have to hear the jokes they're not saying.
Anyhow, back to the post...the show on sunday was not the worst by far that has been shown, and we all have our own opinions as to what episode was the worst or the best. Maybe pazuzu2u was in a foul mood sunday and nothing would have been good. Or maybe Jimbo Jones has a neighbor who, God forbid this to happen to me, plays show tunes too loud and Jimbo just needed to vent the frustrations of the day and pazuzu2u was in the wrong place at the wrong time. There are so many different circumstances to the problem. The point is, can't we all get along? You can't criticize either person for stating their opinion, if you do, we might see pazuzu2u and jimbo jones naked on the next Entertainment Weekly cover, and God knows we don't want that.
And with that rant of lunacy, I bid you good day.
PS Fox should remove NASCAR and Baseball, and have an all PITTS marathon.

Part of that 109% of crap is written by former Simpsons writers. People like Richard Appel ("A.U.S.A."), Gary Apple ("Disney's Doug"), Bob Bain (Producer of 2002 "Miss America Pageant"), Jack Barth ("Baddiel's Syndrome" [I never heard of this show myself]), Neal Boushell ("Sabrina, the Teenage Witch", "Son of the Beach", "Baby Blues"), Tom Brady ("Sports Night","Men Behaving Badly", "Home Improvement", as well as movies like "The Animal" and "The Hot Chick"), J. Stewart Burns ("Unhappily Ever After"), Bill Canterbury ("Boston Common"), Michael Carrington ("The Proud Family", "The Gregory Hines Show", "The Jamie Foxx Show", "The Sinbad Show"), Donick Cary ("Just Shoot Me"), Joel H. Cohen (2000 Billboard Music Awards), Robert Cohen ("Just Shoot Me"), Jonathan Collier ("As If"), Jennifer Crittenden ("Everybody Loves Raymond"), Kevin Curran ("The Good Life"), Greg Daniels ("Life's Too Short"), Michael Feresten (Writer and Creator of "The Michael Richards Show"), Brent Forrester ("Undeclared" as well as the movie "The Stupids"), Bill Freiberger ("Greg the Bunny"), John Frink ("Men Behaving Badly", "The Brian Benben Show"), Howard Gewirtz ("Oliver Beene"), Ned Goldreyer ("Grounded for Life"), Dan Greaney ("The Michael Richards Show"), Reid Harrison ("Son of the Beach", "3-South"), David Isaacs ("Frasier"), Al Jean ("The Critic", "Teen Angel", "The PJs"), Ken Keeler ("The Naked Truth", "Wings"), Brian Kelley ("The Michael Richards Show", "Clerks", "News Radio"), Jay Kogen ("The Wrong Guy", "Ned and Stacey", "Frasier"), Andrew Kreisberg ("Mission Hill"), Bob Kushell ("Grounded for Life", "Normal, Ohio", "3rd rock from the Sun"), Adam I. "Baddiel's Syndrome" was a British sitcom (Baddiel is comedian David Baddiel; he co-wrote it with useless "Guardian" movie critic Peter Bradshaw). By all accounts, it wanted to be Sky One's answer to "Seinfeld" and failed completely.

Jesus spoke to me today. He said, "Your ideas are intriguing. I wish to subscribe to your newsletter."
Sure. Just not the ones written by Ian Maxtone-Graham.
I hope you're not associating Ian Maxtone-Graham with Bob Dylan in that statement. Dylan was original, at least.
Second of all, everyone has a right on this board to criticize the Simpsons writing staff and the quality of their scripts. The posters here don't have to be great writers themselves to have an opinion about it or to express it. I find the "see if you can do better" argument tiring and dishonest.
Hell, even Brooks, Groening, Harry Shearer and Al Jean have all gone on the record and admitted the show isn't as good as it once was. Maybe you should be furious with them, too. (But then, you couldn't harangue them with the "see if you can do better" argument.)
(Right, like it's everyone's goal to be part of the Simpsons writing staff...)
Are you equating success with quality? Adam Sandler is also successful, but his movies are horrible. Of course, none of us have a right to criticize Sandler here since we haven't produced and starred in our own films.
HAR HAR HAR!! Wow! What a hilarious comeback!! I hope you're writing for The Simpsons, "Jimbo", as the world shouldn't be deprived of your clever and pointed satire.
