Opening Theme Re-recorded?

Has anyone else realized changes in the opening theme music over the years? Those of you without a good ear for these things may not know what I'm talking about, but for example, the opening themes for Season 1 and Season 2 have very unique sounds to them. The Season 1 theme has very Danny Elfman-ish qualities for obvious reasons. Season 2's has a very audible bari sax towards the end and parts of it aren't even hummable cuz they sound different from the current version. I've heard a version with an extra half-beat at the end and a bunch of other differences, but you need to have a good ear to notice these things. Does anyone know how many times the opening theme has been re-recorded/re-orchestrated (for lack of a better term)?

(And I'm talking strictly about the opening theme, not the various end credit themes).

I know about the sax solos, but I've been listening to this version from season 2. It is definately not the season 1 theme, but it's also definately not the version used in most recent full openings. Like I said, you've gotta have a good ear for this kinda thing. I'm a musician and I hear some distinct differences between season one, season two, and recent seasons' opening theme. So there have been at least three versions of the full opening music: season 1, season 2, and what I assume to be season 3 and onward.

If ya wanna compare, watch a season 2 episode with it's original full opening and a season 12 episode with a full opening. The transition from Maggie and Marge's car driving scene to the driveway sounds especially different.

Also in around Series 3,when Bart skids past Chief Wiggum there's a 'Dah dah dah DAH!' which is still around today. Before that it just carried on the backing theme.

The current version dates back to Season 3, re-arranged by Alf Clausen. Season 2's theme was mostly the same as Season 1's, with only some slight changes due to the modified opening sequence.
